Rubber Down Customs lift install

Postby Ogeechee » Sun Feb 28, 2010 9:12 am

I received one of the test lift kits last Thursday. My first impressions were that it was very well packaged. Each piece wrapped in newspaper and then extra newspaper in the box so the pieces don't shift around and ding each other. My next thought was, "Wow! These are beefy pieces of metal!" They're definitely built to last, and are as thick as, or maybe even thicker than the King Quad frame that they bolt to.

So on to the install...

The lift when I removed it from the wrapping. It came partially assembled, which took a lot of the guesswork out of installation.

First I took a few "before" pictures. *note* I run my shocks in the middle of the adjustment range.

The Rubber Down Customs rear bracket is very simple to install. I loved that it required no drilling or grinding and that it used existing holes in the frame to brace to.

Image

One problem I ran into is that with the supplied bolts inserted in the direction they were delivered, the threads were awful close to the rear axle, so I flipped all of the bolts around

And then being the err..umm...anal retentive person I am, I rotated my rear sway bar down and re-attached it. I'll buy some extended links for it soon.

The next thing I ran into was that while using the RDC lift bracket, my stock skid plate bolts were too short.

Image

So instead of going and buying new bolts, I just tapped the threads to be 1/4-20 and used some existing bolts I had laying around. I also used a couple of nuts as "spacers" to keep the plastic from rubbing the lift bracket bolts (that were flipped around backwards)

The front was extremely simple to install.

Remove the upper shock bolt...

Place the RDC bracket across the upper shock mounting bracket and reinstall the shock.

I only had one unexpected obstacle in the front install.

On the right side (as you're sitting on the bike) the stock CVT snorkel has to be moved so you can fit the actual shock bolt into the bracket/shock.

Image

Like the rear lift, this bolt needs to be inserted from the rear because the radiator bracket is in the way.

Front bracket installed:

Here are my "after" pictures...

Look at all that wheel clearance now! (those are 26" Executioners)

As a recap, install is quite simple and straight forward. My shocks are not cranked all the way up and I got 1.75" lift in the front and almost the exact same rear.
